WasteInfo provides one of the world's largest bibliographic database
of published material on the management of non-nuclear wastes. This database
contains information regarding management of solid, sludge, liquid and
gaseous wastes, including industrial, commercial and household wastes
in specialized fields of waste minimization, recycling/recovery, waste
disposal, and environmental hazards, impact assessment, auditing, legislation
and policy, along with companies offering waste management products and
services. WasteInfo citations are drawn from monographs, conferences,
company brochures, technical reports, patents, theses and over 900 journals
that are regularly scanned at the Waste Management Information Bureau
(WMIB). Approximately 20,000 sources are covered, including secondary
sources.

Abstract
The feasibility of composting pulp and paper mill fly ash with
wastewater treatment sludge was investigated and the suitability
of the product as a soil conditioner was examined. Power boiler
fly ash from a pulp and paper mill and primary and secondary sludges
from the mill wastewaster treatment plant were mixed and composted
in two windrow piles, one static and the other turned and mixed.
The physical and chemical characteristics of the raw materials
were determined and changes in these characteristics were monitored.
The finished compost was applied to land on a local sod farm;
changes in soil characteristics were monitored and dioxin concentrations
in the soil and compost mixture were determined. Leaching of heavy
metals from the compost was also considered.
